Uniting Mayflower is a new state-of-the-art aged care home and independent living village designed to accommodate the emerging elderly population within the local community. Located in Westmead, the facility is conveniently positioned within easy reach of shops and public transport as well as a variety of medical services. Upon completion, the village will provide its residents with a comfortable, relaxed, social community to call their home.
Initially, Taylor engaged in a two-phase Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) including decant, demolition and excavation works. Following this, Taylor was awarded the Stage 1 Main works package comprising two 6 storey mixed-use buildings, Block A and Block B.
Block A consists of 32 independent living units, 114 aged care rooms, a dementia day centre, multi-functional spaces, wellness centre, staff administration, village shops, ancillary spaces and 2 levels of basement. Block B includes 36 mixed independent living units, an early learning centre and one level of basement. A basement carpark will also be constructed connecting both blocks.
It is important to our client that there is careful planning around the project delivery to minimise the impact of construction activities on the village residents.
To achieve this, Taylor aligned closely with the village community to ensure they remain well-informed and comfortable with the project works throughout the programme. The team has established a number of communication channels with the stakeholders and village residents to ensure all relevant information is frequent, clear, consistent and understood at all times. These include the use of daily noise indicator charts, notice boards and a daily update of construction activities with the Clerk of Works.
