On Friday Taylor tuned in to the livestream of the MBA Excellence in Construction Awards followed by the AIB National Professional Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

These highly anticipated annual ceremonies recognise outstanding achievements and professional excellence in the Construction Industry and continue to be highlights in the annual Taylor calendar.

To celebrate, our nominated teams came together to safely enjoy the livestreams in our head office. Although not quite the same as a Gala Dinner, the event proved to be an enjoyable evening and a great success!

Congratulations to two of our project teams and one of our incredibly talented Project Managers for securing awards.

MBA Site Safety Awards recognise Sydney Opera House

Taylor is the head contractor on the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall Renewal project, and our efforts were awarded a Merit in the highly competitive MBA Site Safety Awards. The Sydney Opera House is a World Heritage listed architectural icon that is renowned as one of the most highly utilised performing arts venues in the world.

Given the complexity of the upgrades, the renewal of the Opera House’s Concert Hall is an enormous task. The upgrades include decommissioning and removing existing theatre machinery, including surrounding services, and demolishing and rebuilding a large mechanical plant room in the Concert Hall ceiling, situated 25+ metres above the stage. All works require highly extensive safety controls and innovations along with extremely careful coordination. This is to ensure that the Opera House’s high safety standards are met all whilst safeguarding the structure and materials of this World Heritage listed building.

We wish to Congratulate and thank the Opera House team for this achievement and for the recognition of our joint focus on Site Safety.

Wildlife Retreat at Taronga wins Best Hospitality Building

In partnership with our client, Taronga Conservation Society, we were thrilled to accept the award for the MBA’s new Hospitality Buildings category.

The Wildlife Retreat at Taronga wraps around its own private native wildlife sanctuary nestled within the zoo. Guests are treated to an immersive overnight conservation experience with close wildlife encounters, guided tours and exclusive dining in the new restaurant with first class views of Sydney Harbour.

This is the largest hotel in NSW to be constructed primarily from Cross Laminated Timber, an innovation that improved the program and provided environmental benefits in lieu of conventional structural systems. Every stay at the Wildlife Retreat contributes essential funding towards the care of Taronga’s animals as well as broader conservation and education programs in Australia and around the world, making it an extremely rewarding project to be part of.

National Finalist

Taylor is extremely honoured to be named a Finalist in the MBA National Excellence in Construction Awards for the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. The National Awards will be live streamed from 7pm on Saturday 28th November 2020.

Adam Vassallo wins AIB National Professional Excellence Award

In a perfect ending to the evening’s successes, Taylor Project Manager, Adam Vassallo has won the prestigious Professional Excellence Award in the AIB National Professional Excellence in Building & Construction Awards.

This is an exceptional achievement and a testament to Adam’s outstanding leadership in the successful delivery of the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. Congratulations to Adam and to our Taronga Project Team.

We could not have achieved such outstanding results without the close collaboration and trust of our long term partner, the Taronga Conservation Society. Thank you and Congratulations to the whole team at Taronga!

And finally, Taylor would like to thank both Master Builders Association and Australian Institute of Building for hosting great events in such a challenging year.
