Taylor celebrates the successful completion and opening of the new Coles development in the up-and-coming Hunter Valley town of Huntlee. The new Coles employs 100 people, forming the centrepiece of the new Huntlee Shopping Centre, which will also include medical and dental practices, an optometrist, a pharmacy, a nail salon, barbershop, cafe and kebab shop.
It is the first retail centre to open in the LWP-developed town, which is located near Branxton and will eventually be home to 20,000 residents.
Coles NSW North general manager Ivan Slunjski said it was an exciting day, “It has been an outstanding achievement by everyone involved,” he said. “Days like today don’t happen very often – it’s not every day we open a new store.”
Store manager Tim Hill said the team was looking forward to being part of the community, with a presentation of $5000 to Branxton Greta Little Athletics Club part of the opening ceremony.
“Community is always at the heart of Coles,” Tim said. A meaningful connection to community is something that resonates with the founding principles of Taylor.
The project was built for Coles Group Property Developments who handle all of the standalone Coles supermarkets, a distinct offering to leasing space in shopping malls and centres. The project comprises a new 3,311m2 single level Coles supermarket, a Liquorland spanning across 192m2, a speciality retail space of 1,087m2 and a 580m2 mall along with on grade car parking accommodating 242 cars, a loading dock and staff parking. The works also included the provision of services, mulching and fencing to an adjacent lot, for future development.
Coles Group identified that certainty of program and compliance with the Coles design brief were primary goals for the successful delivery of this project. To ensure these considerations were delivered to the client’s satisfaction, the project team and assigned Design Manager underwent thorough design compliance processes. These included ensuring that suitably experienced services subcontractors were procured for the project in a timely manner, specifically those experienced in the unique requirements of Coles Group’s design brief.
