In 1994, Mark Taylor had a vision to establish a dynamic construction and property company with a difference. A company focused on relationships from day one, a true delivery partner, providing a holistic approach for clients. Part of that vision is delivering high quality outcomes, and commercial and social value far beyond price.
The rewards of delivering projects that connect to community cannot be overstated. These are projects that the Taylor team love to be involved with, projects that are special to the communities we help to shape. Projects with heart.
It’s incredibly fulfilling to work on purpose-driven projects that span community, conservation, education, health and aged care, science, sports, and more.
The Wildlife Retreat at Taronga, for example, was part of the Zoo’s Centenary Revitalisation Plan. This unique and immersive resort wraps around its own private, native wildlife sanctuary nestled within the Zoo. Owned by Taronga Conservation Society, a not-for-profit, conservation-based organisation, the Retreat contributes funding towards the care of Taronga’s animals and to global conservation research.
Taylor also delivered the Taronga Institute of Science and Learning. The building incorporates immersive classrooms for animal habitation and student interaction, laboratories with public-viewing facilities, research facilities, a lecture hall, six teaching classrooms, open life sciences offices, aviaries, koala exhibits, and reptile enclosures. This world-class science facility is loved by the Zoo, scientists, staff, and the thousands of students who can interact with the animals in an innovative way.
The Bondi Surf Club has become an icon in the community, one we’re very proud of. The state-of-the art clubhouse sets a new benchmark for life saving facilities in Australia. It was a complex and challenging project, however, we were determined to overcome the challenges to construct an outstanding building for the Club’s members, who worked tirelessly for this project.
Another project special to us is a Darlinghurst facility for Sydney’s homeless, a collaboration between the City of Sydney, the Uniting Church and HammondCare. The first of its kind in Sydney, this residential aged-care facility provides accommodation for both men and women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, incorporating specialist services for people with high care needs.
The team at Taylor is incredibly excited and passionate about the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall Renewal program, currently in its early stages. It is a privilege to work on Australia’s world heritage-listed icon.
And our project to deliver ‘The New Heart of Ryde’ will redevelop the current Ryde Civic Centre site with a four-fold increase in community space, as well as contemporary office accommodation, commercial floor space, a public plaza, and on-site parking all within easy reach of Top Ryde Shopping Centre and its surrounds.
Delivering high quality outcomes, and commercial & social value far beyond price.
Effective client and stakeholder engagement are critical to achieving positive project outcomes. At Taylor, we see ourselves as a delivery partner, we take the client and community user groups on the journey with us. We focus on establishing relationships, clarifying any issues or concerns, and working with our consultants to define added value that may not have been considered during the rush of tender.
“For me, this always comes back to listening to the client,” notes Mark. “We’re open, willing to listen and to discuss the most appropriate forms of engagement and partnership.”
Our team members, at all levels, get involved and give back in many ways. We believe in being active members of the communities we help to shape. This has many different aspects to it, spanning client and community engagement during a project, involvement in local charities and events, and giving back to our sector through education and career development initiatives.
Mark Taylor believes, “Growth is not just about the numbers, or just increasing turnover, it’s about creating something meaningful and demonstrating social value to NSW.”
At Taylor we focus on people, on creating enduring spaces finely tailored for the end user and the communities that will benefit from using a space. It is this vision that sets us apart… Ultimately, we’re about people not just bricks and mortar.
