The King Street Stage 3 Carpark Extension comprises a two level extension of the existing five level carpark built by Taylor in 2018. Located in Mascot and within proximity to Sydney’s Domestic Airport, the extension is necessary to service the growing demand for convenient airport parking for both short and long term travellers.

The total floor area across the two level extension is approximately 10,000m2, increasing parking capacity by 334 spaces. Other features include crash barriers combined with architectural screens on the North and East façades, with painted blockwork on the South and West elevations.

Through the ECI phase, Taylor provided alternative solutions which resulted in cost and construction efficiencies for the client. Much of this involved utilising past experience and consulting with our team who delivered stages 1 & 2 of the original carpark. For instance, landing heights were increased above slab level on the exposed fire stair entry doors, which will eliminate the risk of water leaks in this area during heavy rainfall.

In addition, Taylor was able to enhance project delivery through understanding the client’s main concerns of construction within a live environment. During the works Taylor will be occupying the rooftop P5, with the commercial carpark from P4 to B1 remaining open to the public.

To shelter and limit exposure of construction activities to the live environment, Taylor created a perimeter dust protection solution. This innovation uses temporary screens to prevent dust and debris from affecting the operating carpark below the works.

Taylor also developed a detailed site hoarding set up in order to safely separate construction activity within the carpark from the public customer area.
