Taylor has partnered with leading property developer and manager, Charter Hall, to deliver a new logistics warehouse located at 300 Victoria Street, in their Wetherill Park Distribution Centre. The purpose-built facility is designed to accommodate significant growth of the online grocery retailer Marley Spoon.
The retailer has signed a 10-year pre-lease at the new facility and will be relocating from their existing premises in Strathfield. This comes as the demand for more convenient food delivery options has been growing across Australia, accelerated by the current pandemic.
Industrial property is set to play a pivotal role in Australia’s post-pandemic economic recovery. As customers continue to shift their grocery spend to online alternatives, retailers like Marley Spoon have seen a boom in market share. Online retail, 9.7 per cent of total retail sales in June, is up from 6.2 per cent compared to a year ago.
Relocating and expanding from their existing premises in Strathfield, the new facility has been designed to accommodate the significant growth of Marley Spoon and Dinnerly to provide a more efficient supply chain for product to Australian customers. Marley Spoon currently operate in 8 countries, is backed in Australia by Woolworths Group.
The development combines key innovative features delivered for each of our former projects with Charter Hall, integrating a 14,200 square metre purpose-built facility for Marley Spoon with its own temperature-controlled refrigeration system, and a remaining 12,200 square metres of premium grade space featuring a 36 metre super-awning.
The facility is targeting a 5 star Green Star Design and As-Built rating with various sustainability initiatives including 500kw solar PV systems, LED warehouse lighting and rainwater harvesting. Taylor has a strong track record of achieving over 5 star Green Star results for projects such as the Canon Headquarters, in Macquarie Park, and Taronga Institute of Science and Learning, in Mosman.
This project is particularly significant to the Taylor team as it marks the third major industrial warehouse and distribution project delivered in partnership with Charter Hall.
It was this time last year that the team formally handed over the Chullora Logistics Park Australia Post facility for Charter Hall. Taylor fast-tracked the design and construction of this large scale, state-of-the-art parcel distribution and sorting facility back in 2018, purpose-built for national enterprise, Australia Post. The project was not only completed via a staged handover, it also involved construction of the largest super-awning in Australia, measuring 140 metres in length.
Our teams also delivered the Lion Milk Distribution Centre together back in May 2018. The 9,707 square metre temperature-controlled facility is home to Lion Dairy and Drinks and earned a 2018 MBA Excellence in Construction Award in the Industrial Buildings category.
We are, once again, delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Charter Hall on this new logistics warehouse in Charter Hall’s Wetherill Park Distribution Centre at 300 Victoria Street, Wetherill Park.
Drawing from our strong industrial experience, Taylor is proud to once again partner with Charter Hall to support the expansion of the group’s substantial portfolio in the food logistics sector.
