The Journey Behind the John Cunningham Student Centre

Explore the Story, Highlighting Craftsmanship, Innovative Design, and the Collaborative Effort that Brought it to Life.

In the heart of The Scots College, a remarkable transformation has taken place, one that stands as a testament to vision, dedication, and collaboration. The John Cunningham Student Centre is not just a building; it is a truly iconic project that provided our team with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This building, meticulously crafted with attention to detail and a carefully planned selection of materials, has been designed to stand the test of time.

The existing Stevenson Library building has been converted into a larger and more practical structure with modern amenities and technologies, all while incorporating an authentic, internationally acclaimed Scots Baronial design by JCA Architects. This required precise coordination of the complex design and redefined what our team is capable of, showcasing the strength of relationships and the importance of working together towards a common goal. “The detail and duration of this 3.5-year project required endurance and collaboration, making it something we are truly proud of,” said Jason Tulich, Project Manager, Taylor.

The architectural vision, led by John Cockings of JCA Architects, has left a lasting impression on all involved. “It’s definitely a building that’s marked my career,” Cockings reflected. “I’m confident that I won’t ever work on another project quite like this.” The collaborative spirit was echoed by Jordan Graham, EPM Projects Associate, who noted, “That’s definitely a standout for me on this project was how collaborative the whole team was.”

The new Centre is a testament to the school’s commitment to providing a modern and functional learning environment while honouring its proud historical legacy. Dr. Lambert, Principal of The Scots College, expressed, “You start with purpose, and then you act on that. And I hope this building becomes symbolic of that in some way.”
