Taylor completed the floor slab replacement at Building 12 Bankstown Aerodrome for Bankstown Airport Limited (BAL). The project involved construction of a new internal topping slab to the warehouse spanning an approximate area of 10,064m2. Additional works included new pedestrian ramps, door upgrades, services upgrades and reinstatement of line marking.

During the tender phase, Taylor provided various value engineering options to which one was approved by the client. The original scope of the project involved replacement of existing slabs which consisted of extensive excavation and demolition works. Taylor identified that these proposed works posed as an environmental risk due to the known contaminated soil adding unnecessary time and costs to the project.

To address this, Taylor put forward an alternative design which involved pouring a new slab over the existing slab whilst maintaining adequate loadings in accordance with the original design, client and tenant requirements.

The final result attributed a 5-week time saving and significant cost savings. This solution also eliminated the environmental risk for the removal of spoil off site for the client.

A very important aspect of the project was to ensure the Building 12 tenant, Tru Blu Beverages, remained operational for the duration of works. To achieve this, Taylor zoned and programmed the project over several staged handovers. This ensured the tenant could continue normal operations whilst maintaining programme and cost savings for the client.
