Winner MBA Excellence In Construction Awards 2015 | Refurbishment / Renovation / Extension $10-$15 million
With major historical significance for the people of New South Wales, the Hydro Majestic Hotel was deemed a landmark building that required incredible consideration and sensitivity across all areas of design and construction.
Taylor entered into the project through an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase, followed by a design and construct contract to provide expert advice and guidance due to the complexities and sensitivities of the development.
The works included construction of the new Mark Foy Pavilion (Open Market for local produce) / Delmonte Lobby and Majestic Kitchen (Commercial Kitchen) (1200m²) – which links into the existing Majestic Ballroom/Delmonte Wing. The building fabric consists of precast / structural steel framed building with metal roof and glazing façade. Refurbishment and extensions of the existing heritage boiler house (circa 1903 built) into a café inclusive of commercial kitchen, dining areas and amenities. The works involved the retention of the existing boiler as a feature within the building. The southern car parking area had extensive civil works with the creation of a new entry/driveway from Great Western Highway, bus parking areas, car parking (150 spaces approximately) and extensive ground services including bio retention pits. Alongside the reinstallation of heritage items, Taylor was able to bring practical and sympathetic solutions that renewed the majesty of this historic icon.
