Taylor completed the upgrade to the existing Market Place in Leichhardt, which included the following:

  1. Installation of a new escalator from the lower mall to the mid mall.
  2. Installation of new lifts from the basement carpark to the roof top carpark with stops at the lower mall, mid mall and upper mall.
  3. Installation of a new travelator from the upper mall to the roof top carpark.
  4. Upgrade of existing mall amenities.
  5. Installation of acoustic treatments to loading docks and external ramps to enable the centre to operate with deliveries outside normal trading hours.

Stakeholder Management was a key aspect of this project due to its location, live nature and the neighbouring mix of commercial, retail and residential occupants.

Due to the volume of works, Taylor and the stakeholders programmed the works to be done sequentially to minimise the impact on the centre’s trading and access. Noisy works within the centre were scheduled to be completed during the night which included demolition works, concrete works and structural steel erection. This was coordinated with the subcontractors well in advance to ensure minimal impact on the centre’s tenants during the day.

The project was an important one for all the stakeholders involved. Not only did the acoustic works allow the centre’s tenants to take deliveries outside of normal business trading hours but also provided the centre with DDA compliance and ease of access throughout the centre for the local shoppers.
