Ryde Central will be recognised as the ‘Heart of Ryde’, a new civic precinct with a Multipurpose Community and Cultural Centre. It will be a smart, vibrant, iconic and accessible space connecting community, cultural and civic life. Taylor will deliver a well-planned, contemporary and accessible built form and public space that caters to the diverse community.
Ryde Central will reflect the character of its city, acknowledge local history, promote sustainability and respond flexibly to the community needs. A destination where people can connect, collaborate, create and celebrate.
Positioned on land which has been home to the Council for over 50 years, the site is at the crest of a ridge running from north-east to south-west through Top Ryde and is visible from various regional vantage points.
When the site is amalgamated, it is approximately 16,500m2 in area and irregular in shape. It has 290m of frontage to busy Devlin Street, and forms part of the A3 arterial road connecting the M2 and M4 motorways. Two existing pedestrian bridges connect the space to Top Ryde shopping centre.
The new development will consist of:
- Administration building with internal civic spaces;
- Multipurpose Community and Cultural Centre;
- Additional commercial space (dedicated within the administrative building);
- Ancillary food and beverage retail outlets (dedicated in each building);
- Appropriate levels of onsite car parking; and
- An attractive public domain and open space.
Ryde occupies most of the land between the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers and has 16 suburbs within its boundaries. Upon completion, Ryde Central will cater for the steadily increasing population across this region and be an iconic centre that the community will be proud to call their own.
