The Pathology Fitout and Emergency Department Upgrade were designed to complete the fitout within Stage 2 of the Wagga Wagga Hospital Redevelopment. Taylor was engaged by Health Infrastructure to complete the fitout of a new working space for the Wagga Pathology Department as well as multiple overnight bedrooms for users of the new pathology. The works included construction of a new office as well as new pathology, microbiology and histology laboratories.

The Decant Project comprised $4.3M of the contract sum and involved the refurbishment of demountable buildings used for the temporary accommodation of clinical, ambulatory and storage facilities. These departments are being temporarily housed for the duration of works pertaining to Stage 3 of the Hospital’s master redevelopment plan.

Each of the works were conducted in various locations within the hospital grounds with the pathology & emergency upgrade in the main hospital building, clinics at the northern end, medical records and prosthetics buildings towards to south western corner and the ARS and allied health facilities on the western boundary.

During the build, Taylor chaired important stakeholder meetings with all sections of Pathology, including its end users, hospital security and MLHD ICT. Site walks with stakeholders during the construction process were effective to manage client expectations and ensure that the project would be delivered with the end-user in mind.

It was important to the client that the hospital and its operations were not disrupted for the duration of works. To ensure disruptions were kept minimal, Taylor was proactive in following correct procedures and submitted advanced notice of any works that may disrupt normal hospital functioning, such as announcements of heightened traffic, noise disruption or gaining access to electrical cupboards in the hospital itself. Taylor also proposed several value engineering options, most of which were adopted by the client and ultimately resulted in significant savings of over 3% of the contract sum.
