Taylor Construction Group’s project team proposed a significant redesign of this 204 bed accommodation facility, resulting in a cost saving of approximately $1 million for the University of Western Sydney, without compromising on quality.
The facility will incorporate accommodation, communal kitchens, living and outdoor recreation areas, and an administration centre across three separate two-storey buildings. An existing Manager’s residence is undergoing a complete refurbishment.
The project team recommended the use of in-situ concrete over structural steel, and suggested alternative electrical and hydraulic designs to ensure the project meets the client’s budget.
Challenges to construction presented by an operational childcare centre and playing fields adjoining the site will be overcome. A comprehensive Traffic Management Plan has been implemented to assist with this.
