Taylor successfully delivered an upgrade of the John Morony Correctional Centre for the NSW Justice Department. The John Morony Correctional Centre is a medium security facility which accommodates up to 250 inmates and a kitchen facility that provides pre-cooked meals to all other correctional centres in the Sydney basin.

This $10 million project involved partial demolition of the existing kitchen and the construction of a new Cook / Chill Kitchen with associated storage including bulk storage freezers, blast freezers, cool rooms, equipment wash rooms, cooking areas and office areas. The existing building was also further expanded, which involved raising and extending the existing roof along with construction of a new dock area and turning bays.

As part of the works Taylor was required to deliver an innovative and energy efficient mechanical solution, which integrates the building cooling system with the kitchen refrigeration plant. The system uses the plant by-products to heat and cool the habitable areas of the facility and has only ever been installed once before in Australia.

A key requirement of the project was to ensure that the operations of the centre and in particular the operational kitchen were unaffected by the works. This was achieved through careful staging of the works and open, communicative stakeholder management. As a result, we were able to ensure that any impacts from the works were planned and managed and the stakeholder remained fully informed of the proposed construction activities of those affected.
