Taylor delivered the new Freshwater Unit under the NSW Government’s State Wide Mental Health Infrastructure Program. The initiative is designed to support the delivery of mental healthcare reform across the state.
The Freshwater Unit is a standalone building located at the existing 135-bed Forensic Hospital within the Long Bay Correctional Complex. Operated by Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network, the facility provides forensic mental health rehabilitative services for the state on behalf of NSW Health.
The unit comprises a new, five-bed secure mental health inpatient unit with landscaping, driveway, footpath and associated services. It is designed to complement the existing highly secure units at the Forensic Hospital and enhance the ability of the Hospital to integrate care for the patients, with an aim to return them to their individualised care pathways, or, where appropriate, to therapeutic alternative care pathways.
