Taylor has completed HammondCare’s newest residential aged care facility in Cardiff to address the urgent needs for dementia-specific care in the Hunter Region. The $30 million facility has been developed around a cottage model to provide dementia care in a familiar and domestic style environment, giving residents a sense of familiarity and comfortability.
The Lake Macquarie region has an ageing population with many local people needing the type of care that HammondCare Cardiff now provides. The project included the construction of a 99 bed dementia-specific facility, including support for residents with special needs.

Accommodation is provided in 5 single level buildings, one multi-level building with separate buildings dedicated to administration, services, chapel and a shop. The design of the facility allows residents to move around independently in a place where they don’t feel institutionalised with nursing staff available 24 hours a day.
Residents are cared for in small domestic cottages that operate as a household enabling them to maintain a sense of independence such as own meal preparation and cooking whilst enjoying the recreational outdoor areas, views and community engagement through the various inbuilt activity features and an interconnected walkway.
As a Design and Construct project, Taylor focused on understanding the requirements of the end user, working closely with HammondCare and together brainstormed design savings without impact on the original design intent.
