The 204 bed Western Sydney University facility incorporates accommodation, communal kitchens, living and outdoor recreation areas, and an administration centre across three separate two-storey buildings. An existing Manager’s residence has undergone a complete refurbishment.
The Taylor project team proposed a significant redesign of the accommodation units, resulting in a cost saving of approximately $1 million for Western Sydney University, without compromising on quality.
The project team recommended the use of in-situ concrete over structural steel, and suggested alternative electrical and hydraulic designs to ensure the project meets the client’s budget.
Challenges to construction presented by an operational childcare centre and playing fields adjoining the site were overcome. A comprehensive Traffic Management Plan was implemented to assist with this.
