Taylor delivered upgrades to Yagoona Public School, located on the Hume Highway and within short distance to central Bankstown. The existing school remained operational while the upgrades took place, including a new administration building which containing several new classroom blocks, 16 permanent teaching spaces, new passenger lift and toilet facilities.
The delivery of these high quality learning facilities have not only increased the school’s capacity, they also provide the students an improved learning experience and the school a new identity particularly at its Mulla Road entry.

During the design phase, Taylor was able to provide several value engineering solutions for the project. One alternative was a change in the ground slab from PT to slab-on-ground which enables to cast in sections. This initiative ensured the ‘internal’ slab was complete and the building could come out of the ground with the external areas, which allowed casting at a later date with no damage during construction. An important aspect of the project was identified to be safety. All construction methodologies were done in a way that all safety hazards were minimised as the most critical stakeholders for the client are the staff, students and neighbours. Due to construction in a live environment with many young students, extensive training before construction was put into place to ensure there was a clear understanding of all aspects of safety.
Furthermore, Taylor performed weekly reports to the client specifically on safety. These HSE reports were project specific and custom to the client’s needs containing weekly foresights and progressions including SWMS reviewed, total inductions, any details on non-conformances, LTIs and more. Taylor also ensured that strict parameters were put in place during construction with live school environments surrounding the project.
